DIY Face scrubs at Home

Hello sunshine,

As the times have been and none of us have had a chance to make a visit to our beauty salons and parlors, our skin is unable to get the pampering it needs. To help solve part of the problem i am going to walk you through some easy remedies, that can be made from ingredients and items that are right out of your kitchen and a home based skin exfoliation sesh!!

We often forget how important it is to scrub our face. Not only does a scrub remove dead skin, it also prevents breakout and eventually gives you a spot free and a much more clear skin.

However, you have to always be careful of over exfoliation as it can leave your skin red and irritated and maybe worse than what it was before. so make sure you do not use an exfoliant too often and for a long time. At an average you should scrub your face not more than twice a week.

Here are a few face scrubs that will help you exfoliate your skin and leave your skin feeling fresh, healthier and brighter.

Honey, sugar, and lemon face scrub

This multi-function scrub can be prepared from ingredients that are right out of your kitchen. Packed with amazing goodness, Honey, is a natural moisturizer for the skin and also acts as a pore cleanser. On the other hand, Lemon, is a great source of Vitamin C, which helps in tackling discoloration and pigmentation leading to a more even skin tone, it also helps in tightening your pores, making your skin appear smoother.

In a bowl mix together honey, lemon juice and fine sugar, stir until it is well combined and turns into a fine mixture. Scoop out the required amount of the scrub and gently buff your skin. If you have left over mixture you can rub it on your hands and knuckles. Make sure to use a light hand to avoid over exfoliation and be extra gentle around the eyes (recommended not to scrub around the eyes). scrub for around 1-2 minutes in circular motion, then gently wash it off with cold water. Pat your skin dry and use a heavy duty moisturizer (at night) which will leave your skin glowing.

what you will need:
  • A tablespoon of sugar ( to help exfoliate)
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • A tablespoon of honey
  • Olive oil (optional)

Coffee and Yoghurt (Dahi) face scrub

Not only is coffee a beloved beverage for many of us, but has also proved as a great ingredient for amazing skin. Coffee has been used not only in recent times but had been a cult favorite of people in ancient times.
Coffee is a great source of vitamin B-3, it helps enable blood circulation and stimulates the skin which leaves you with a beautiful radiant glow. Filled with a lot of antioxidants. it also protects the skin against harmful UV rays. Yoghurt as we are all aware is also a powerful ingredient that helps in brightening and moisturizing the skin. It can also help treat acne prone skin if used on a regular basis.

Mix the coffee and yoghurt until well combined. Massage it into your skin gently in circular motions, avoiding the under eye area, for 1-2 minutes and buff away all the dead skin. Leave it on the skin for around 10 minutes, wash off with normal water and pat your skin dry. Moisturize as required.
This scrub will leave your skin feeling super smooth and give you a natural glow.

What you will need:
  • Coffee of choice (Bru, Nescafe) 1 tablespoon
  • Yoghurt (Dahi) 1 tablespoon
  • Honey (optional) 1 teaspoon.

Tomato and Sugar face scrub

Tomato is a super food that will not only benefit your body but will also work wonders for your skin. Tomatoes are rich in Lycopene (a plant nutrient that has antioxidant properties), which gives it its bright red colour. This property will help in brightening the complexion and provide a natural flush making the skin appear more youthful. It also helps in calming the skin and treat sunburns. Tomatoes also have a high water content which leaves the skin feeling hydrated. Sugar will act as a the scrubbing agent.

Start by taking a tomato and cut a thick slice from the top keeping intact the green stem as it will help in holding on to the tomato better (without making too much of a mess). Separately, in a plate pour out some fine sugar. Dip the slice of tomato into the sugar and start massaging you face slowly in circular motions covering the entire face for around 2 minutes. Let the mixture sit on your skin for 10 minutes and wash it off with normal water, towel dry your skin and follow up with you moisturizer of choice.
Blending the tomato into a fine puree instead of using the slice can be an easier alternative to this remedy.

Things you will need:
  • one medium size tomato
  • 2 tablespoon sugar

Do try and share these with your loved ones and give your skin the love it deserves. Come back next time to hear me talk about more exciting home based skincare and DIYs.

Thank you ❤️
